The Star Kingdom of Manticore and the Republic of Haven have been enemies for Honor Harrington's entire life, and she has paid a price for the victories she's achieved in that conflict. And now the unstoppable juggernaut of the mighty Solarian League is on a collision course with Manticore. The millions who have already died may have been only a foretaste of the billions of casualties just over the horizon, and Honor sees it coming.

She's prepared to do anything, risk anything, to stop it, and she has a plan that may finally bring an end to the Havenite Wars and give even the Solarian League pause. But there are things not even Honor knows about. There are forces in play, hidden enemies in motion, all converging on the Star Kingdom of Manticore to crush the very life out of it, and Honor's worst nightmares fall short of the oncoming reality.

But Manticore's enemies may not have thought of everything after all. Because if everything Honor Harrington loves is going down to destruction, it won't be going alone.

Really good book. It was slow at times, but there was some action in it. However, if you take the last few books, and read them all together, it gets pretty boring.

I was terribly disappointed... I am huge fan of Honorverse, but this was last ARC of Weber I am buying. As some of people here mentioned, this book, together with SoS and ToF could have been just one book. How many times one could read about same events from different points of view?
I don't know if there is change in Baen policies since passing of Jim (RIP) or it's just authors starting to squeeze every penny out of reader, but we are getting fed by halfs and quarters of finished books by most popular authors, i.e. Weber and Ringo (My really last bought ARC by Ringo was similarly unfinished "Eye of the Storm").
I don't know whom to blame, authors or publishers, but it is really sad to see.
It is even more strange, since Weber's and Ringo's books are usually released for free in about half-year after publishing through Baen CD`s...
Guys in Baen, John and David, I would even buy hardcopy of all these books, if I was sure it will be a good book (like I will do with Lois Bujold's next book - she never disappointed me). But, hey, if it will be the trend as with EoS and MoH,... I might just wait to next Baen CD....

Absorbed, crying, laughing, hand over my face..... I just love the Harrington series, can't wait for more. I get antsy having finished "Mission of Honor" with nothing new to read in the series. I just hate having to go back to "regular" books until something new in Honorverse comes out. What a journey!

Not the best Honor Harrington book. There is little action and a lot of meetings.
OTOH Honor is now a senior (the senior fighting Admiral) and thus it would also no longer be believable to have her do frigate action.
The alternative would be to focus on other younger characters. I much prefer to have Honor continue as the main character.
Also - even a so so David Weber book is still a great one.
The book is a bit of a cliff hanger; but Weber has now presented a credible new opponent or two and I am sure we will see some real major action in the next book(s).
I can't wait. Hopefully Mr. Weber will finish the next ASAP. I would not mind to pay a substantial extra price for an advance ARC ;-)

really enjoyed the read. And once again can't wait for the next book. The story wrapped up a lot, yet the book ended at the beginning of an even larger story arc.

This should have been held to be a complete work with the follow on novel.

I think its because I am such a fan of David Weber that I am terribly disappointed with Mission of Honor. The reason is that there are a lot of plot lines in this book that really don't get satisfactorily resolved. There are three major plot lines.
    1) Oyster bay plot line
    2) Honor plot line
    3) Solarian plot line
    4) After effects of Storm of Shadows, Torch of Freedom

If it was just these 3 through the point of view of a few characters it would be ok. But David Weber has inserted every single character from every previous book into Mission of Honor and each of them has about a chapter.
There is a lot of coffee table discussions between Elizabeth Winton, Hamis Alexander and the others after every single minor event discussing what-ifs and changes back and forth.
Then you have the Solarians discussing everything also and introducing new elements.
In addition you have Cathy Montaigne, Eloise, Terekov, Cachat/Zilwicki, Helen Zilwicki, Oversteegen, Henke, Medusa etc.....

I thought this book was horrible because it combined the bad things of 2 people I loved whom I really hate now, David Eddings and the late Robert Jordan.

David Eddings started out as a fine author and then went bad after he started writing about the same event from almost everyones point of view taking a simple 1 page description and expanding it into 10. David Weber has pretty much done the same. It gets old fast.

Robert jordan in his later books created minor character storylines at the expense of the major characters. The minor characters were fleshed out but simply didn't play much of a part in the development of the story. The same holds true for David Weber with this book.

So in short you have minor characters discussing major events endlessly.

He didn't maintain his usual high standards by going for unnecessary verbiage with slow plot development with Storm from the Shadows, Torch of Freedom and the Safehold series. I was kind of ok with those. what saddens me is how he could do the same with Mission of Honor. I am all for a good plot buildup but these are way too many minor characters with way too much going on. He sacrifices the plot development to flesh out these characters and thats what I don't like. It feels like he throws in 1 or 2 pages of plot and then spends the next 30 discussing the same from different points of view.

The only reason I don't wash my hands off Weber is because of the wonderful reads that his earlier books were. I hope he one day goes back to the same, but I will definitely think twice about buying another of his books new much less before even being published. There are other books I can read instead.

Gotta say it was way too short. No ending, just a ... to be continued kind of feeling. Wait until the next one comes out and you might have a whole normal Harrington novel.
