The Star Kingdom of Manticore and the Republic of Haven have been enemies for Honor Harrington's entire life, and she has paid a price for the victories she's achieved in that conflict. And now the unstoppable juggernaut of the mighty Solarian League is on a collision course with Manticore. The millions who have already died may have been only a foretaste of the billions of casualties just over the horizon, and Honor sees it coming.
She's prepared to do anything, risk anything, to stop it, and she has a plan that may finally bring an end to the Havenite Wars and give even the Solarian League pause. But there are things not even Honor knows about. There are forces in play, hidden enemies in motion, all converging on the Star Kingdom of Manticore to crush the very life out of it, and Honor's worst nightmares fall short of the oncoming reality.
But Manticore's enemies may not have thought of everything after all. Because if everything Honor Harrington loves is going down to destruction, it won't be going alone.

Product ReviewThis is what the series has been waiting for! Mr.Weber has finally recharged his batteries and is ready to go forward! The canvas is bigger, the characters more complex, the plots thicker! While it must be said that all criticizims by others in this thread have valid points you have to remember that Honor was never meant to exist in this universe and it might take a book or two to fit her in and sort out all the converging sub series. That said if you have read the last 2 to 3 books in the Honorverse you know that Mr. Weber came across as a tired author with his creation. That he was continuing the stories more out of duty than love, that the creation had become the controller in the writing relationship. While those books still had moments of brillance it was not the same. Here it is easy to see that Mr. Weber has regained his desire and is ready to go forward, while many old friends are given short shift it would be better to think of this as only the first chapter in a long book rather than a complete book in itself. I finished this book in a day (as did everyone else here apparently lol ) and just want to know what happens next! Not the best Honor ever and a little rough but at least can see that the future will be interesting and that Mr.Weber has a definate storyline.

Product Review43 Chapters of Staff meetings. That's what Weber's last half dozen books are like. A story told with little to no action and alternating viewpoints of people just discussing the same damn problems. Its brutal, boring, and lousy writing, but God help me I still do want to see where this series and his other Armageddon Reef one go, so I keep buying them. Because I do like the series, I give this 3 stars instead of the 1.5/2 it really deserves.

Product ReviewI have yet to read this episode but just wish to address a thread I see in the comments, to wit: The comments about the "internal dialog" and the in depth characterization. To me these are the things that make David Weber's books and characters come alive. I can feel what the characters are feeling and many times can relate the characters to people and situations in my life.
So, for me, I rather like Mr. Weber and his style and read and reread everything of his work that I have and can find. If those of you who find him wordy and boring and overdescriptive just work your way through one of Michener's dedications to the health and welfare of the printer craft or to the equally verbose "Earth's Children" by Jean Auel. Not that the above mentioned books are bad or not an enjoyable read but David Weber is a master craftsman who knows how the balance between action and characterization can make or break a story.
For me, at least for now, he is unquestionably best reading author in sci-fi today!
End of rant thank you,

Product ReviewI'm one of those who'd complained about too much time spent on characterization and not enough on plot advancement in the last few books. That said, this book felt kind of rushed with not enough screen time for the characters who play crucial roles... ^_^;;
Mind, I loved the book. But it's also true that I hated the cliffhanger of an ending. I almost screamed in my office when I clicked on the link for chapter 50 and found the listing for characters. Hopefully, we, the readers, won't have to wait for three or four years before the next mainline Honorverse book. Hopefully. If not, there's this great Indian tradition where we burn effigies. I've been meaning to try my hands at it for quite sometime now. :pPosted on
