The Star Kingdom of Manticore and the Republic of Haven have been enemies for Honor Harrington's entire life, and she has paid a price for the victories she's achieved in that conflict. And now the unstoppable juggernaut of the mighty Solarian League is on a collision course with Manticore. The millions who have already died may have been only a foretaste of the billions of casualties just over the horizon, and Honor sees it coming.

She's prepared to do anything, risk anything, to stop it, and she has a plan that may finally bring an end to the Havenite Wars and give even the Solarian League pause. But there are things not even Honor knows about. There are forces in play, hidden enemies in motion, all converging on the Star Kingdom of Manticore to crush the very life out of it, and Honor's worst nightmares fall short of the oncoming reality.

But Manticore's enemies may not have thought of everything after all. Because if everything Honor Harrington loves is going down to destruction, it won't be going alone.

Another solid addition to the Honorverse that can either stand on it's own or as part of the series.

As I understand it, the original plan was for Honor to die and the focus of the stories to move onto her children. However, with the world (+ David!) having become fond of Honor, it was necessary to rework the overall plotline and introduce some new elements. As a result, the last few books have often felt somewhat contrived - and there's been a certain element of "Jordan-esque" branching, with yet more characters and viewpoints being added into an already epic tale.

However, Mission of Honor appears to be the capstone of these refocusing efforts: it ties up a lot of the threads and sets the scene for the next stage - complete with a major cliffhanger. Old enemies have made their peace, new enemies have declared their intentions and the Kingdom is effectively back where it started, with some technological advantages but severe resource limitations. Things are looking up for the reader - so long as this new focus isn't lost!

This book had some good points, but I could use less of the multiple points of view. I would also like to have to follow a few less plots, it felt like I needed a raod map just to figure it out.

This book has some direct action and while it does takes a while to get to the point, I think the pause in the action was needed to catch the reader up with where everyone is and what they are up to. I do hope the retelling of tales thru multiple eyes is more limited in future novels but some of that is inevitable as it is needed to pull together all the happenings in the Torch and Shadow serries with the main story arc. I expect the next book will have more action.

There are a lot of characters, new and old, not a lot of true action, but you know what? It was amazing, and addictive and exciting.

And now I have to wait for the next one.

I for one, having missed a couple of editions over the last few years, give this the highest marks. I don't mind some of the play back and forth that others are commenting on. At this time the three (?) different streams are still close to each other. If DW continues them I expect that they'll diverge more and more as it goes along ... a good read
