HONOR HARRINGTON

Having made him look a fool, she's been exiled to Basilisk Station in disgrace and set up for ruin by a superior who hates her.

Her demoralized crew blames her for their ship's humiliating posting to an out-of-the-way picket station.

The aborigines of the system's only habitable planet are smoking homicide-inducing hallucinogens.

Parliament isn't sure it wants to keep the place; the major local industry is smuggling; the merchant cartels want her head; the star-conquering, so-called "Republic" of Haven is Up To Something; and Honor Harrington has a single, over-age light cruiser with an armament that doesn't work to police the entire star system.

But the people out to get her have made one mistake. They've made her mad.

A real page turner. I've read some other Weber, but not anything in the Honorverse. The other was OK, but I figured this to be the light reading I was in the mood for & downloaded. It turned out to be a good choice. It not only kept me reading passed my bedtime and looking to pick it back up the next day, but I also started the next book in the series (The Honor of the Queen), and so far find it a page turner as well. I'm a bit stubborn about rating a book great unless it does a lot of things well, especially making me look at things differently. So this is sort of a five star if you are truly in the mood for something light but good.

Wow! I was surprised and delighted. I'm often skeptical of someone who turns out as much content as Weber, but my first reading of him has me rethinking this. On Basilisk Station was well written, well edited, interesting, engrossing, well paced, exciting (especially the end) and had great characters. Very highly recommended.

I love this series! I started off by picking up The Short Victorious War on a whim, and fell in love with the book and proceeded to pick up the rest of the books in the series. Mr. Weber created a deep and historic Universe on par with the Star Trek and Star Wars universes.
