Centurions were the guardians of Rome. At the height of the Roman Republic there were over five thousand qualified Roman Centurions in the Legions. To be a Centurion required that, in a mostly illiterate society, one be able to read and write clearly, to be able to convey and create orders, to be capable of not only performing every skill of a Roman soldier but teach every skill of a Roman soldier.

Becoming a Centurion required intense physical ability, courage beyond the norm, years of sacrifice and a total devotion to the philosophy which was Rome. When Rome fell to barbarian invaders, there were less than five hundred qualified Centurions. Not because Rome had fewer people but because it had fewer willing to make the sacrifices. And the last Centurions left their shields in the heather and took a barbarian bride . . .

We are . . . The Last Centurions.

And this Rome SHALL NOT FALL!

It's political. It's Right wing. It's lavishly controversial. It's scary as HELL, because it's all too possible. This is a 1st person past tense account of a fictional future Army officer who gets hung out in the Middle East when the bird flue pandemic Finally hits and Global Cooling at the same time(aka the Time Of Suckage). The story is less character driven then most of Ringo's other books and moves fast skipping along some high points. All and all an enjoyable Read.

Can't quite make up my mind on this one, sorry Mr. Ringo, but ... Dean was right that it's scary as hell because it's all too possible. And the political ranting actually make the narator more believable since I've known several special unit officers and troopers who can make Bandit 6 sound rather mellow. Yet some how this book just doesn't quite live up to the level of John Ringo's other books.

I like Ringo's books but this political screed is one of the worst books i've ever read - I didn't finish the book.

Let me get a few inconsequential tidbits out of the way. Do I personally agree with most of Bandit Six's politics? Yes. Did my attend the eight lectures during the sophomore level and ten lectures during the senior level creative writing courses where the professor explained ad nauseum why stories should never be written using
