HONOR KEEPS HER PROMISE

The Solarian League—for hundreds of years they have borne the banner of human civilization. But the bureaucratic Mandarins who rule today's League are corrupt and looking for scapegoats. They've decided the upstart Star Kingdom of Manticore must be annihilated.

UNCOMPROMISING COURAGE

Honor Harrington has worn the Star Kingdom's uniform for half a century. Very few know war the way Honor Harrington does. So far, hers has been a voice of caution. But now the Mandarins have committed atrocities such as the galaxy has not known in a thousand years. They have finally killed too many of the people Honor Harrington loves.

UNCOMPROMISING VENGEANCE

Now Honor Harrington is coming for the Solarian League. And Hell is riding in her wake.

One minor point. It wouldn't be a Joint Staff. A joint staff is the integration of the services of a single nation, such as the US. What Manticore, Haven and Greyson have created is a COMBINED staff as the US and the British Empire created during WW2.

The book does tie up a lot of loose ends, but it continues the flaws that DW has engaged in over the last 5 years or so: WAY too many words, for what is a relatively simple story; way too many info dumps disguised as explanations from one character to another; way too much heavy breathing over SF-nal tech weapons.
And the thing that really bugs me is that in the past DW at least had the courage to kill off an occasional important character. That's war, after all. But in this one (SPOILER!!) at least 3 if not 4 characters are apparently killed only to be resurrected by way of miraculous rescue. Sure, all the poor swabbies get to die, but luckily their commanding officers somehow come out OK. This may be it for me. I'll wait for future books to hit the library.

Very good wrap up to the series.
A few surprise twists that I never saw coming, and I'm usually good at spotting them coming. Not this time.

Does it wrap up EVERYTHING? D'oh! of course not! Gotta leave room for more books. Does it FEEL like it completed the mainline series though? Yes indeedy it does.

Stuff get blowed up, people get kilt, and Honor gets seriously ticked. The BadGuys(tm) just never seem to learn.

Who lives and who gets kilt? Read. The. Book. tis worth it.

I'm absolutely plonking down cash for the hardcover of this one in Oct.

Really looking forward to the timeskip and the next round of books. Should be very intersting... (you know which accent to use for that line) :)

Ever since Storm from the Shadows, one had the feeling that the Honor Harrington series was going down the drain. Too many needless characters, too many words, too many points of view of the same events and way too much discussion amongst conspirators, the good guys, useless characters, etc, etc.

And then came Uncompromising Honor. This is, I believe, the last book in the Honor Harrington series covering the dissolution of the Solarian League and the completion of a major part of the genetic, psychotic supermen plan for Galactic Domination (TM). The action is fast, the focus on minor, very minor and completely pointless characters kept to a minimum, the plot is tight and though there is overlap in timelines for the last few books in the series, the overlap is needed to move the plot along. In other words, Mad Wizard Weber has gone back to his roots and man, boy is he as good as ever.

And at the end of this book, you'll know the answer to this very important question: What do genetically engineered psychotic supermen do when all their strategic goals are about to be achieved despite numerous setbacks and disasters such as Green Pines, McBryde, Gold Peak? FYI, it isn't pop the wine bottles, savor their victory, celebrate how they achieved all their goals despite the opposition of the galaxy's best tacticians - Honor Harrington, Thomas Theisman, et al - with their strategic acumen. :)

Great read!! Yes a lot of favorite characters gets killed. But there are at least two major surprises that most will enjoy. One is about Honor' family. Two about a certain Treecat and his new partner Plays with Fire. And I'm glad to have bought this!!

I haven't fully read it yet, but about Phil's review:

He's wrong. The ebook size is large and definitely fits what was announced.

Yes, there are only eight chapters in there, but I guess that's more or less sloppy editing than something missing.

Older books had "major" chapters, each depicting a month of action, and lots of sub-chapters, in the dozens.

This ebook is divided into eight major chapters (the months), but seems to be missing the bookmarks for the sub-chapters.

Nonetheless, these *are* definitely in the book. It looks complete to me.

What I've read so far is good. The caveat is "so far". There are only 8 chapters and the dARC is obviously incomplete. Please fix this (and don't buy the eARC until it's complete to avoid giving yourself GeorgeRRMartinitis).*******Edit I stand corrected. There was an error with my downloaded version that cute some chapters short. This eARC is complete though a bit shorter than what I'm accustomed to, coming from author.
