The Mesan Alignment is revealed, and, for Honor Harrington and the Manticoran Star Kingdom, this means war!

Unintended Consequences

Sometimes things don’t work out exactly as planned.

The Mesan Alignment has a plan—one it’s been working on for centuries. A plan to remake the galaxy and genetically improve the human race—its way.

Until recently, things have gone pretty much as scheduled, but then the Alignment hit a minor bump in the road called the Star Empire of Manticore. So the Alignment engineered a war between the Solarian League, the biggest and most formidable interstellar power in human history. To help push things along, the Alignment launched a devastating sneak attack which destroyed the Royal Manticoran Navy’s industrial infrastructure.

And in order to undercut Manticore’s galaxy‑wide reputation as a star nation of its word, it launched Operation Janus—a false‑flag covert operation to encourage rebellions it knows will fail by promising Manticoran support. The twin purposes are to harden Solarian determination to destroy the Star Empire once and for all, and to devastate the Star Empire’s reputation with the rest of the galaxy.

But even the best laid plans can have unintended consequences, and one of those consequences in this case may just be a new dawn of freedom for oppressed star nations everywhere.

  1. Filling in details. Universe builder
    Quality
    80%
First be aware that I'm probably they type of person that this book was written for, the one who wonders about all the details and wonders about those secondary characters because when I get them it fills out the universe and makes it seem more 3 dimensional instead of just a backdrop for the hero to go blazing across. I appreciate the different view of the story from the viewpoint of some of the secondary characters especially the Megan agent, because it takes them from the evil villan who is evil just to push the plot along to a person who may still have to be stopped but has motivations that are understandable. I appreciate that this time the sceans were actually rewritten instead of just copied from one book to the other to let you know where you are, and I am hoping that with the final installment we will get to some new territory. It is only 4* because I recognize this isn't for everyone, some people don't care about the side plots and only want to see what's new. As stated hopefully that will come in the last installment in 9 days. If you want the expanded universe this is worth reading, if you just want one f the main characters wait for the next mainline book.
Oh one last thing, do not start with this book, if you have never read a honor book this one will confuse you since it assumes you know a lot of the backstory. The series is too big to do a what happened before chapter so if you are starting the series go get the first book from the free library section, you won't get to this one for a while.

Book goes all the way back to Monica. And I don't know why! Probably the least enjoyable book of Honor Harrington I have read and I have read them all. The book should of been called Operation Janus. That was what it was all about. Did anyone want any more expansion on that? Hope this somehow ties in to new books, but must be honest that I won't read another of his until I read the reviews. Reviews are spot on! Don't buy this one. Very disappointing. Now very concerned that the new Safehold will be just as disappointing.

PS I assume the 58 chapters I read is the whole thing. but the maybe not. The ending was super annoying.

I love Webers Style. I still love it when i get a story from another perspective. But not the third time. And i won't buy the bundle again. The first chapters i got earlier here, but the whole book takes longer. Not understandable.

Nothing new here, no Harrington, no Nimitz, nothing moving forward. Wait for the next one.

  5. A lot of effort for a very few needed chapters

As stated in other reviews, the first half to two thirds of the book are yawn inspiring. There is a little new story telling late in the book, but a 200 page book would have covered it all without the yawning of this wasted space.

Welcome to marketing. Remember David is not in charge of the storyline (which I understand has diverged from his intent) so it is understandable that it is not his best work.

  8. Your paying for the last 10 chapters

This was a lot of wasted money...the last 3 books have all been about 50% rehash of events which already occurred and do nothing to further the plot...we keep waiting for something to take it to the next level but we never seem to get there and my wallet and my interest level is waning. Note to David please go back to writing one thread or story line at a time breaking it up and retelling events in different venues is destroying the enjoyment. We get out of one chapter then are forced to read, or in my case now skip, an entirely new chapter...that is the exact same event writing we have read three time before...and I am not exaggerating...it has to stop.

This was a book that absolutely did NOT need to be written. I seldom wish for a refund, but this one deserves it. Absolutely something that feels like it was written by a ghost writer.

  10. Still out on the verdict

The 36 chapters they have given us with the bundle is just rehash. I thought this was going to continue on from Michelle's fleet and the arrival at Mesa. It looks like it may start at chapter 37 so you pay for 36 chapters of fillin stuff and have to wait for November for the rest.
I will no longer by the bundle I will by the Earc at the $15
