When an airborne “zombie” plague is released, bringing civilization to a grinding halt, the Smith family, Steven, Stacey, Sophia and Faith, take to the Atlantic to avoid the chaos. The plan is to find a safe haven from the anarchy of infected humanity. What they discover, instead, is a sea composed of the tears of survivors and a passion for bringing hope.

For is up to the Smiths and a small band of Marines to somehow create the refuge that survivors seek in a world of darkness and terror. Now with every continent a holocaust and every ship an abattoir, life is lived beneath a graveyard sky.

As Iread the reviews, I see a lot of complaints about the ending. Sorry, but anytime a book ends it is a sad point. That universe has ended for now. But this is a continuing story which we will get to continue. The book has excitement, it makes you wonder if you could handle it. John has a great ability to craft and tell a story. This book doesn't disappoint. He crafts an interesting situation and tells of experience within. What more could you ask? It is well written and is never boring. What more can you ask of a John Ringo book?

    Really, really liked it.
Some complain about the ending, but on the other hand the story is at a good stopping point with the 'Circus heading out to (spoiler alert) the Iwo Jima.
I can see why some are complaining, but then a story like this has to hit pause.
I would give it 5 stars, but for some predictability others have commented on.
However, the action scenes are great - Mr. Ringo truly has a talent for injecting just the right touch of humor, and I almost ruined my Kindle spouting coffee when (spoiler aleart) a certain schizophrenic teenager is lamenting a lack of a chainsaw to hew zombies.
It's well worth the read, and I am eagerly awaiting the next eARC. Mr Ringo, please keep up the good work! And, I would pay 2x the price for a John Ringo / David Drake twofer. Just a thought. And could you and Travis Taylor PLEASE finish Space Bubble and get going on the next 'Aldenata sequel? Please? This waiting is causing me prematurely grey.....

Good book, great Start for a Series.

But to short (pages and content) and the real open end / Cliffhanger was not for my liking.

Especially when looking at "Last Centurion" which had a real end, and was more like two books in one.

Or the Paladin in Shadows series which every book a solid end.

    Like some before me :

This cries for another book, fast!
