A new addition to the Paladin of Shadows military adventure series by multiple New York Times best seller John Ringo and Ryan Sear. Sequel to Ghost, Kildar, Choosers of the Slain, Unto the Breach and A Deeper Blue.

After saving America from Middle Eastern terrorists, even Mike Harmon and the Keldara could use a vacation. Of course, the Kildar's idea of a vacation includes taking down pirates in the Singapore Straits. But when he finds computer chips designed to run nuclear reactors in the pirate booty, Harmon has a new mission thrust upon him—discover how bottom-feeding thieves got their hands on top secret technology.

The chips are headed for newly democratic Myanmar, a country vital to American interests in the region. Now Harmon finds himself in a desperate race to learn who stole the chips and why. From glittering Hong Kong to the slums of Thailand to the swamps of Myanmar, Harmon and his Keldara team follow a trail of death and deceit across the glittering underbelly of Southeast Asia.

And as the path winds through dark jungle and slave labor camps to the heart of newborn democracy, Harmon must devise a way to prevent the nasty overthrow of a nation's capital by totalitarian tyrants. But if there's one thing Mike and the Keldara specialize in, it's doing what it takes to give freedom a chance.

This review refers to the ARC. Some slight changes in the characters, only to be expected with another writer in the mix. Biggest problem is the discrepancies. Adams referred to as a Master Sergeant, characters with .40S&W weapons referring to the 9mm bullet... etc. Hope that all gets fixed.

Familiar characters, but the writing isn't Ringo. Hard to define, but while enjoyable, not in the same class as John's work.

While the book was good, and I was really pleased to see the story move to China, I had a few issues. First, unlike previous books, the Kildar & Keldara seemed less menacing and more vulnerable in this book than in any other book. Second, while Ringo is usually very good about his research, I have to admit to seeing a bit of unrealistic anti-China bias in this book. Third, I liked the new character, Jace, but I didn't really think it was realistic to have this new character suddenly become a team leader in the Kedara, regardless of his training or connection to Vanner. And fourth, I didn't like seeing Mike & Katya being dummied down by not realizing what Soon Yi was, as it was incredibly obvious that she was an agent, most likely from China. With all that being said, still an enjoyable book and definitely worth the eARC price. On one final note, I noticed several comments stating that they didn't like Mike becoming somewhat villanous. Gonna have to disagree there. Mike has repeatedly stated that he is 'not a nice guy', and besides, there is really nothing wrong with the main character being a b@sterd. Toodles for now.

Really good to see the Paladin of Shadows back in action without all of the moping about. Read it in one sitting, kept me up until 3 A.M. Liked the change of scenery, enjoyed the heck out of the story. Nice!

I agree with almost all the comments , but after thinking about the book overnight, I think this book breaks one of the cardinal rules. The Kildar doesn't come off as a hero in this book, he reads like a total Jerk. I don't think the series would survive another book where he is so close to a villain.

Would not purcahse as an EArc as it was ok but not great. Lacking in any significant character development and not sure why they even bothered with the chinese spy character at all.
