TAKE BACK THE BLOODY VEIL
With a new destroyer command under him, now-Captain Daniel Leary and master spy Lady Adele Mundy are off to the backwater Veil region on a diplomatic mission. Did we say diplomatic Yeah, right. What they find is a local warlord ready to throw Cinnabar from the region, a vile aristocrat dealing in slave labor—and a huge Republic of Cinnabar Navy defeat that has thrown the entire sector under the crushing heel of the vile Alliance.
Time to fight back—and that Alliance stronghold in the nearby Monserrat cluster looks awfully vulnerable. Okay, actually, it looks impregnable to any but a determined Leary and Mundy. But should they achieve the impossible yet again, they do have an occupying army nearby—if only they can free it from its chains!
Master and Commander to the Stars!
"[R]ousing old-fashioned space opera."
—Publishers Weekly on the "Cinnabar" series.
"Drake couldn't write a bad action scene at gunpoint."

Product ReviewIt is Adele's book and it is about time. I had been thinking that the only one who ever got medals was Leary, even though Adele was key to all his victories in addition to individual acts of heroism.
Only gave the book a 4 because while it is good space opera, it is space opera!Posted on

Product ReviewGood addition to the series. As Geoffry pointed out, this does seem to be Adele's book. Not sure the end will "haunt" me - but it is a good ending. Story is a little far fetched, but hey, arent they all. Well worth the price

Product ReviewThere is a dehumanizing process going on in the series. Adele finally notices that Daniel is like Tovrea. She already knows she acts like Tovrea in order to keep her "family." This dehumanization process continues, and Adele acts in horrific ways that would have been beyond the comprehension of her innocent, younger self. The series, and this book in particular, is a good examination of the cost of combat on those engaged in it. Like Prince Roger said of the people who went into the jungle on the Anabasis in the March to the ___ series, we went in, and some bodies came out, but our souls stayed in there. (from /We Few/). If you have someone in Iraq, read the series.

Product ReviewFantastic book. As Geoffrey said, this book weaves together the changes to Adele since she first met her friend Daniel. With plenty of heart-pumping action along the way! Great finish. Up the RCN!
