I have to say that I didn't expect this level of dreck from Ringo. His writing has been more than outstanding in the past, and then in this book, it seems that he stumbles and falls right on his face. The biggest trip that he makes is at the end. He indulges himself in what I call Kurtzitis, made popular by Katherine Kurtz. Once he has written a bit and got the readers attached to the characters (and he has done this), he starts messing around, and writes several books with them where nothing actually gets closure, and nothing ever ends on a positive note - for anyone. It drags you into buying more books, just hoping that these really neat characters you have a connection to might actually win out - but of course, until possibly the last book, they never do. Occasionally, this is ok, in the middle of a large series, but it shouldn't be the norm. This book has that in spades. Separately, in this book we are beat over the head with the fact that Mike O'Neal, Jr. is going to meet up with Clan O'Neal. Foreshadowed all through the book. And then the author breaks faith with the reader and does a basic cop-out play. Mr. Ringo, you have so many successful books out there. Worry about the story rather than trying to wring the last penny out of your readers. I've given up on the Posleen series, and if this trick gets pulled again, I'm going to walk away from the rest of your series.

Clearly the first of several books. Much better than the previous Cally ONeil book

Uneven. The end of Sister Time implied a different direction. In fact the authors are forced to acknowledge this at the begining with the exchange with words to the effect "I thought Michelle was going to take care of it" " "She said she would try". Iron Mike is not himself and (avoiding a major plot development/twist) he bumbles through the book with the curiosity of a snail. Glad I didn't by the EARC and paid only $6.00.

A good book overall. I agree with others that this is not the best book in the series, and I would like to get back to the main story. However, this book did catch my interest fairly quickly and kept it throughout. The ending did seem a little . . . bare. It's as if the book was calling out and saying "Same bat time, same bat channel" getting us ready for the next installment.

Worst book I have read from Mr Ringo and Co. Plot was disjointed and barely there. The last two to three chapters were the best part which were what Mr Ringo does best, military action with the ACS.

Good stuff! Not quite as good as Sister time but otherwise good.

Bounced around a lot I agree, which took a bit to get used to. Like to see the continuity changes improved in later works. Moves the story along, some interesting twists... one that I hated but, maybe a way out of it later on. Have to wait for the next book.

I was so looking forward to this book and was seriously let down. This book feels more like a quarter than a whole. The book began strong but then leveled off, and the climax was just there - no buildup - no "Oh my God" moment - it just happened and then it was over. I know I'll still buy the next one, but enough with the filler, enough with the sub plot, lets get back to the story, lets get back to the characters we care about, lets get to the what we came to expect from this off shoot of the Posleen series in Cally' War and Sister Time.

This was a disappointment for me. Ringo is co-authoring so many books at the same time that the quality is falling markedly.

There was a terribly complex "set up." The mid-part was, at best, fair. I hated the ending ("Which major character will die?"). Wait for it at your local library and check it out. If you do buy it--as soon as you finish it, think back to the lyrical prose, fully fleshed characterizations, and outstanding plot development of Ringo's best work: "A Hymn Before Battle." I suspect you will feel disappointed as well.
