GO BIG OR GO HOME
When Monster Hunter International's top hunter, Owen Zastava Pitt, was given a tip about some hunters who had gone missing in action, he didn’t realize their rescue mission would snowball into the single biggest operation in MHI's history. Their men are being held prisoner in a horrific nightmare dimension, and the only way to reach them is through the radioactive ruins of a monster-infested war zone.
As if that wasn't bad enough, it’s also the home base of the powerful creature behind the devastating attacks on the Last Dragon and Copper Lake. It turns out ancient gods of chaos really hate trespassers. But this god picked a fight with the wrong crew, and now MHI wants payback. Calling on their allies, a massive expedition is formed, and with the odds stacked against them, a legion of hunters goes to war.
It’s D-Day at the City of Monsters.

I could tell within pages of when the hero made contact with one of the marooned people who it was and how things were going to proceed, which spoiled the rest of the book. Moreover, for a book with siege in the title, the siege part was very lacking. Also, introducing the main adversary doesn't need a book. Reminded me of the last Honorverse book in that sense. So far as I'm concerned, we've already been introduced to the Big Bad Evil and don't need to know its motivations. Evil works better when we don't know what's motivating it.
Hope that MHI doesn't follow the example set by Honor Harrington series...Posted on

Only m'ehIt felt that Larry phoned in this book and didn't put his usual effort into the story.

Good read. A little less action and a bit more mystery than the previous books.

Weakest so far...I am sad. This book started strong but just fizzled. The last half just didn't have much punch. Sorry Larry, but you got lost in the weeds with this one.

Getting long in the tooth.I love the MHI series, but the series is getting too long. The first part of the book is low on action. Last time I will buy an EARC; wait until the books get to the library and check them out.

I'm a huge fan of Larrys writing but once he got to the nightmare realm the story line/writing seemed to go limp. I still read it until 1am but it when I finished it I was kinda "meh". The epilogue seems to indicate the next book maybe better.
