Far Edge of Darkness is the first half of an unfinished story that was meant to continue in Unholy Trinity. Why isn't the story finished I plead a combination of ill health and financial need. Far Edge was originally written before my first professional sale and became my third published novel, after Sleipnir and Time Scout, plus the anthology Bolos 3: The Triumphant. I was editing Far Edge and writing Wagers of Sin (Time Scout #2) when a major illness shattered my health and left me unable to write for three years, with a contract for a major series unfulfilled. Wagers of Sin limped its way into print during this time as I struggled to finish the last third of the book (which I have no memory of writing). Jim Baen and Toni Weisskopf stood by me as I put my life back together, an act of faith and kindness for which I will bless them forever. My health remains fragile, which limits my production speed, as does the day job I must keep to hold onto utterly necessary health insurance. That is where the situation stands at present. I'm committed to the Hell's Gate "Multi-Verse" series with David Weber, which must be my highest priority.
If you have read Far Edge of Darkness and enjoyed it, thank you and please accept my apologies for its unfinished state. (I, too, want to get my literary children off that cliff they're plunging over!) If you haven't read the book yet, I will say this in warning: the book's action is constructed so that every single chapter ends on a cliffhanger, including the last one. If you want "the rest of the story" to exist before you begin reading a book, you'll probably want to skip Far Edge of Darkness. But if you are willing to overlook the lack of an ending to the overall story (there is closure of some major plot threads), you're welcome to step onto the roller coaster. Just hang on, because that last drop is a real dilly...

Product ReviewLinda, I love this story. Please get healthy and finish it. If you cannot make time to write the second novel, how about adding a few chapters to this book to close the story? You could then republish it (with appropriate notifications/disclaimers) and perhaps make a few bucks off of your old words. (Rating isn't 5 just because the story isn't finished.)

Product ReviewLook at the publication date on this book. Don't expect a continuation. After a couple of experiences like this (yeah, Sleipnir as well) I decided many years ago that I would only buy books from Linda Evans if she is a co-author. With a co-author involved, she'll probably finish the story. She doesn't do so well with solo efforts. I've been waiting over ten years for the sequel to FEoD. I'm not holding my breath.

Product ReviewWhat if the mafia got control of a super duper top-secret project capable of time travel? Read it and find out, as the mafia, the military (including one nominally deranged but very capable misfit), an archeology grad student, and a Miami vice cop (not to mention ex-gladiator) provide an entertaining romp. While the time travel plot devices may be familiar, Ms. Evans weaves a story that is engaging, inventive, challenging, and with living and believable characters. It is difficult to describe further in a few words without spoilers, so I'll leave it at that... other than to say that Ms. Evans is a superb writer and you won't be disappointed. However, I agree with Rick and Marcel that the abrupt ending is a major disappointment, and obviously demands a sequel. I still give it 4 stars because: (1) it's a great read; (2) it's hard to complain given that it's available as a free Baen Free Library Book; and (3) I'd like to do everything possible to incent Ms. Evans to write the sequel. Specifically, I'd gladly pay for the sequel, and would buy it long before I'd buy another Weber cookie-cutter joint effort such as "Hell's Gate" and "Hell Hath No Fury" (hint hint). If you have any doubts about what Ms. Evans is capable of, read "Sleipnir"--another Baen Free Library Book.

Product ReviewLike Rick, I am extremely pissed off that the book stopped way too soon - it seems to be begging for a sequel, but I've been unable to find one. However, considered as first in a series, the book is amazing, hence the five stars.

Product ReviewIncredible book. Wonderful plot twists. Enthralling character development. Then the story literally drops you off two thirds of the way through the book. The bad guys have been identified, the good guys are united, they head out after the bad guys ... and the rag-tag band of intrepid heros goes flying off a cliff and the book just stops!!!
The book is a fantastics beginning. Angry as I am about being dumped in the middle of a story, I will rush out and buy it the minute it's available in complete form. But it should never have been published in the first place in this incomplete state!Posted on
