Peril and strife strike on a double front for Honor Harrington and company. After a brutal attack on the Manticoran home system, Honor Harrington has rooted out a plan designed to enslave the entire human species. Behind that plan lies the shadowy organization known as the Mesan Alignment. Task number one for Honor is to shut down and secure the wormhole network that is the source of the Star Kingdom's wealth and power—but also its greatest vulnerability. Yet this is an act that the ancient and corrupt Earth-based Solarian League inevitably takes as a declaration of war.

The thunder of battle rolls as the Solarian League directs its massive power against the Star Kingdom. And once again, Honor Harrington is thrust into a desperate battle that she must win if she is to survive to take the fight to the real enemy of galactic freedom—the insidious puppetmasters of war who lurk behind the Mesan Alignment!

    Who shot J.R.?

It was bad enough when TV introduced the cliffhanger. It's much worse when one of my favorite authors does such a clinker.

The buildup was okay -- but I expected some sort of attack at the wedding, and the abrupt ending with nothing at all even partially resolved has turned me off of the series for now. There are dozens of possibilities implied, but this story doesn't jell.

I kept waiting for something interesting to happen as I read through this book. Given how little had happened, by the time I reached the final chapters, I felt certain it was time for another assassination attempt. But no. It went out with a whimper.

This book clearly is nothing but setup for the next one. And at half the length of some of the previous ones, it seems clear that it was rushed out.

Probably the worst book in entire series. Too much talking, it should be cut in half at the very least. Not much happening, and all that happened felt like a detective story where someone told you who the killer is (in previous books).
I think now i know absolutely nothing new after reading that book, compared to what i knew after reading previous books in the series. Everething proceded as expected from the previous books, like in a roller coaster ride.

A Rising Thunder is a sprawling, unfocussed, disappointing installment in the Honorverse. It tediously repeats material covered better (and more concisely) in Mission of Honor (MOH), without advancing the basic plot. Corrupt Solly bureaucrats? Check. Outclassed Solly Navy? Check. Growing Manticore/Haven awareness of Mesa villainy? Check. Honor sleeps in the nude? Well, that

I've read about 95% of All of Weber's Work. Even paid for a goodly portion of it, some of it after I read it for free. (on the fifth imperium, I am not a pirate yarr.) This, I think was the worst of the Weber books. I'm thinking i missed a complete bit of the back story with the Crown Emperess, and the fact that 15% of the story was a rehash from a different perspective? And an almost word for word copy of the previous book. Gah.

I mean the previous book was really pretty good, but the world now has so many more awesome characters that were completely ignored. Aviars, Michelle where were you?

I'm glad I paid only $6 for the ebook. I really hope better is to come.

Jumpy story line, one pathetic battle, and a terrible ending. There was also a real feeling of walls being hacked through in order to escape written-in corners. (I speak especially of the overt admission that the impromptu summit which solved all problems is the sort of thing that happens in a bad novel. It is.) I'm going to choose to believe that Baen pressured Weber to get this one out and forced him to rush it.

What can I say; the series has lost it. the politics are ok, some of the characters are still fun. honor ..well, th elack of Honor is better than the Mary sue-ness of hte last novel (really..this multiple marriage thign is just so stupid). The space action is boring. "Now EVEN MORE missiles are fired"..and every battle is decided by who is tricked and ambushed. Even the interesting LAC's have been relegated to an anti-missiel system. Way too much talk, way too little happening, and this book ended on such a disjointed, boring note..I'm not really caring when the second half come out. Weber can do better than this, but this book felt liek he needed a car payment soon. Maybe he needs to take a break, or end the series. Storm from the shadows seemed liek the last book in this universe had some life, other than the anthologies, and the anthologies are ok teasers, but not enough to carry on the series. Mr Weber, find the soul of this series again, soon, because it is just gone.

Bloody awful. For a Honor Harrington book, Honor herself doesn't get much "screen time"... About 30 pages in I had to double check I wasn't reading the ARC.

The whole thing is disjointed, and really needed a better editor, massive chunks of it could have been ripped out without any negative side effects.

I hear it's suppose to be only half of a two part... but damn... the first part is really bad.

Unless you are a diehard fan of this series and MUST know what happens, skip it and go read some of his earlier works in the HH verse, they are much better.

Comapared to the rest of his work, I am SERIOUSLY DISAPOINTED. I literaly went back and re-read all of the HH Series to get ready for this book. The brightest part is that i did read all of the other books and at least i enjoyed them. This was disjointed, repetitive and lacking in his trademark action. If Mr. Weber wanted the money, he should say so, i would rather give it away than pay for this level of poor workmanship.
