Honor Harrington is arguably the most popular character in modern science fiction, but there are many other stories in the Honorverse besides those in which she has the central role. This fifth volume in the popular Worlds of Honor series explores some of those stories with the help of such top writers as best-selling author Jane Lindskjold, New York Times best-selling author Timothy Zahn, and more—including an all-new Honor Harrington adventure, set in her younger years, when a mob of space pirates made the mistake of tangling with Commander Harrington. That was a fatal mistake—for the pirates . . .

About the Author

David Weber is the science fiction phenomenon of the decade. His popular Honor Harrington novels repeatedly make the New York Times best seller list and can’t come out fast enough for his devoted readers. He has also written the popular Safehold series for Tor, and a best-selling epic SF adventure series in collaboration with John Ringo, with four novels so far: March Upcountry, March to the Sea, March to the Stars and We Few. His Wind Rider’s Oath, another New York Times best seller, continues his popular Bahzell fantasy adventure series.

I really don't understand the low ratings people are giving this book. There are three long stories that fill out part of the HH universe. They are good stories.
The total length of the new prose is equivalent to a typical novel. No shortchange there. The ship stuff stuck on the end I view as a bonus for those interested in such details.
    I recommend the book.

This was not worth the price. An ripoff of the HH fans. I usually buy the ARC releases, this will make me much more careful. Baen Books should have better sense than to pull this crap. A Tom Clancey stunt.

I am a huge fan of the Honorverse series and of David Weber but in my opinion this book was simply a filler to me some type of contractual requirement to publish something to make a profit on. A truly terrible waste of money. If I found one more book this bad I would probably stop reading this series or any other series writen by this author.

Extremely disappointing addition to the HH library. Not quite (but only just) missing a 'terrible' rating. I get the feeling this is just a moneyspinner.
Certainly no effort (and very little talent) went into writing the 'stories'.

There are three stories and a Buships article in the fifth Honorverse anthology. The first story, the one you can preview on webscriptions.net, is a good story as far as how well it is written and entertains the reader. The second, a short story set in Haven and the Silesian Confederacy, I did not find as entertaining simply because it isn't clear what the main character's loyalties are, or his agenda. This is a story begging for an answer, or at least a more satisfactory sequel to put it into context. It is the third, oddly enough Mr. Weber's contribution, that disappoints me the most. It is set during Honor's first command, and while the concept and chance to see more of Honor's background would normally draw my attention this story fails to achieve more than a glide, let alone break orbit and send me into outer space. This is bad enough but the fact that instead of another (or two other!) stories the editors decided to throw in something I'd expect to see posted in Baen's Bar. Had this been included as a bonus to a five story book I could have been happy, but to have this treatise on the evolution of space drives or something (I couldn't manage to finish the damn thing... I'll have to try) attempt to fill the space that should have been held by some solid, relevant fiction is a let down. If you're a completist, buy it. Otherwise there's a fine institution near you called a Library. I'd strongly suggest its use.

Very dissapointed. I should have waited to hear from others. I am very surprised by the lack of substance.

3 stories doesn't make a book. You can read the first 1/3 of the book as a sample, and pick up the rest over a (single) cup of coffee at B&N. The last 2 chapters are filler. Who could possibly care about the technical details of fictional spaceship armor? If you buy the 02/2011 bundle, buy it for the back issues: Much Fall of Blood and Bound in Blood are great stories. The other 4 together are probably worth the remaining $3.

I am totally unimpressed by this so-called book. 5 chapters, 3 short stories, a theoretical dissertation on warships, and a chapter of nothing but drawings? Where is the David Weber I have come to expect? Where's the Honor in this Honorverse book? I am thoroughly disgusted.
