Beginning a New Series by a New York Times Best-Selling Author.
Will the People of Earth Bow Down to
Alien Overlords—or Will They Live Free or Die?

First Contact Was Friendly

When aliens trundled a gate to other worlds into the solar system, the world reacted with awe, hope and fear. But the first aliens to come through, the Glatun, were peaceful traders and the world breathed a sigh of relief.

Who Controls the Orbitals, Controls the World

When the Horvath came through, they announced their ownership by dropping rocks on three cities and gutting them. Since then, they've held Terra as their own personal fiefdom. With their control of the orbitals, there's no way to win and Earth's governments have accepted the status quo.

Live Free or Die

To free the world from the grip of the Horvath is going to take an unlikely hero. A hero unwilling to back down to alien or human governments, unwilling to live in slavery and with enough hubris, if not stature, to think he can win. Fortunately, there's Tyler Vernon. And he has bigger plans than just getting rid of the Horvath.

The Troy Rising series is a story in three parts—Live Free or Die being the first part—detailing the freeing of Earth from alien conquerors, the first steps into space using off-world technologies and the creation of Troy, a thousand-trillion-ton battlestation designed to secure the Solar System.

Own it in print - bulky. Own it in ebook - handy. Bought it again as a 'talking book'...
Took it camping with the brother and his son. They liked it so much THEY bought it in print and read it as a family before bedtime (the nephew is 11).
I read or listen to it about once a year.

This book is simply a fun read from cover to cover, and gives a great start to what has been an extremely good series that is sadly waiting for Book 4. As for any "crap economic theory" in it, free enterprise is the worst economic system ever devised - except for EVERY OTHER ONE! I just wish we still used it - but the USA is an Oligarchy run by crony capitalism as it dies from above and within, which Ringo isn't shy about pointing out!

I will forgive the crap economic theory (sorry but the conservative dogma used in the book has no basis in actual economics, uses no math and is pretty much ripped out of current "Ryan/Bush dogma) for the great characters and strong science base in this top notch book.

That detracted from the read for me especially since I know a lot about how much government funds USED to push R&D in this country before the spend nothig tax nobodt philosophy started.

But...Tyler Vernon is a great character. The ideas used are fun to watch being developed especially if you like me read lots of science mags over the last few decades and the aliens are interesting. You dont have to be a conservative to love this book, you just need to not go screaming into a corner every time you meet someone with a differing viewpoint.
