Product ReviewIt started out slow and initially I found it stressing my suspension of disbelief but it started coming together the further you got. It smoothly accelerated to a great finish with all the little lose ends tied up. A good read. Scary to contemplate as reality.

Grim and bleak and not for everyone. There are 2 levels of looking at the book. Its context as related to our world - and then the action itself where instead of USA and Caliphate you think of The Empire of X against the religious state of Y on planet Z - which has been done in sf quite a few times.
At the first level, regarding our wolrd this is almost a masterpiece on the 1984 scale. It's scarily plausible and we can hope and pray it ain't going to happen.
At the second level it's a pretty good adventure sf, compulsive reading and with the plot strands merging very well.

Product ReviewYou might as well know- The author has a very specific viewpoint-
He finds the Moslem culture to be demeaning to women, detrimental to human liberty, and dedicated to the overthrow of Western culture. He's a good writer, and but you can't separate this element from the rest of the story.
One reviewer had a problem with how accurately he depicted divisions in Moslem culture- the difference between Sunni and Shiite and Turk and Arab. I don't know if the reviewer read the same book. His complaint is groundless. He does have very moderate Moslems (they may even be Turks) acting very moderately when they are embedded in a Western culture. In the same way, they are perfectly willing to go along with the extremists when the culture goes Moslem. In fact, even after the culture does go Muslim, a lot of the Moslem characters are as quick to discard the Koran's dictates as any "Turk".
Great book, good action. But the author makes the very reasonable prediction that Moslems will act in the future as they have in the past. And frankly, the author presents a very unflattering picture of the Moslem culture as a nasty, demeaning and hypocritical assualt on everything that Western civilization has deemed good. If you can't deal with that, you really won't like this book.

Product ReviewA pretty good read. Tries to be a warning against radical Islam, but really does not explore the issue very well. If you are going to try and educate while entertaining, it is a good idea to do a better job of it, because when it is done poorly, it leaves a bad taste in the reader's mouth.
The action is pretty good, although parts of it are glossed over and other parts go into excruciating detail.
Its not a perfect novel, but its worth the time to read it.Posted on

Product ReviewThis is a fine book. But some people need to figure out it is FICTION!!! I agree with most.. heck all of what CMDR Albert says but a novel does not have to be correct in all things, it just has to entertaining, this book is. I am a retired airborne ranger. You can bet i am in FAR right field, the thing to remember here is Tom is a writer and a darned good one and is aloud a certain freedom to say anything he wants to mak it a good FICTION book.

Product ReviewWhile I have thorouhly enjoyed the first three Kratman books, I was totally disgusted by this one. I did spend some more time on his cute little screed in the appendix.
Since this is not the popular view, let me pause to say that I am a retired neurosurgeon with several docterates, I spent 14 years on active duty in the US Navy and was a full Cdr upon discharge. I was on the Navy medical team that dealt with those Marines blown up by al Qaeda in Lebanon. So I don't like muslims particularly the radical and/or conservative kind. Politically I am way right of Genghis Khan. I think that Rumsfield and his duplicious coterie of felons should be tried for war crimes. Not for what you might think but for cutting our military strength in half and then attacking the wrong ones and not the real villains i.e.
the Saudis and the radical muslims in Pakistan/Afganistan.
As a lawyer, Kratman shouldn't be accused of intellectual dishonesty ... that would be a compliment. He is simply puffing up a partial point of view to incite hysteria to sell a really crappy book.
Like most Americans, he comes across as inherently stupid when it comes to muslims. Let's not even go into the American faux pas in not learning about Sunni vs Shiite. Bet you guys don't understand the ultimate consequence of that one? Here's a hint, you have already lost.
But the subjects in is book are the Turks. Kratman would have you worked up about these guys ... bad choice. These guys want to be on your side. In fact they are on your side but with guys like Kratman it's hard for the good guys. You see Kratman didn't tell you that the majority of Turks are very proud of being a secular country. For example, it's against the law to wear a hijab in schools and public buildings.Of course since you guys are becoming more ignorant, you make it harder ... you know, the tens of thousands of women and children you have killed and of course, incidents like Abu Grabid.You haven't glommed on to the reality that their side has more television coverage because they think it's a big deal ... and they are winning!
I am speaking from personal experience now. Before I retired, I lived in NW Montana. There are a whole bunch of red-blooded American religious extremists living out in the woods in Montana and Idaho. You don't hear about them because they have machine guns, grenades and other goodies. Their daughters don't/ can't complain and so the sheriffs leave them alone. Of course talk about religious crazies, you always can go to the Mormon polygamists in Utah & Arizona. Kratman bemoans the future of Europe and ignores the problems in his own country.
But it really pisses me off when he talks about Turks. This is because my only daughter married one. Obviously I was leary of this at first. But that was 7 years ago. They are very happy and the only muslim thing he does is not eat pork. He quit going to the mosque when he was a kid because he couldn't stand the "stinky feet". But here is my point, like most Turks. he says he hates Arabs. There is a very big difference and for Kratman to lump them all together is a major flaw in his whole thesis. You don't go from Algerians in France and Turks in Germany and end up with Saudi Wahabi Arabs galloping around with raptors on their wrists.
And why oh why are you worried about muslims in Europe? You already have an invasion of Hispanics in your country. They are breeding and they will have the numbers in a couple of decades to take back at least the portions of Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado,Arizona and half of Califorina. Look at the demographics. The reality is that the publishers wouldn't touch this one in any way. They couldn't let Mr Kratman comes across as a racist and bigot. He can treat Turks that way because Americans are so poorly educated that they are virtually stupid. Why else would the most popular candidate for president is guy with a muslim name and started school in a muslim madrassa. And he would be commander of the armies in the fight against muslim extremists!
Don't get the wrong impression of my opinion of Kratzman's writings. Let.s just call Caliphate a brain fart. I loved the way he did in the bad guy in Carniflex and I look forward to the sequel to that.
