A mammoth volume (over 250,000 words) of the many facets of one of science fiction's most popular talents. Here are treecats, starships, dragons, alternate history, self-aware Bolo supertanks, wizards, sailing ships, ironclads—and, of course, Weber's fantastically popular starship commander, Honor Harrington. For nearly two decades, David Weber has been taking enthralled readers to destinations strange and fantastical, from his best-selling Honor Harrington novels and short stories to the heroic fantasy of Bahzell of the Hrandai, and the shared universe stories set in worlds of his own creation, and those of others, such as Eric Flint's best-selling Ring of Fire series, the popular Bolo series of Keith Laumer and more.

Visit 17th-century Magdeburg for the creation of the United States Navy a hundred and fifty years early, and go with John Paul Jones as he wins the Revolutionary War—For George III. Fight dragons and demons with U.S. Marines in a most unexpected campaign, find out how humans and treecats first met and share Honor Harrington's very first battle. But once you step into the worlds of Weber, you may not want to go home again.

"Sword Brother" and "Miles to Go" really shine! Sword Brother will become one of your most frequently reread not so short stories.

This book is a huge disappointment. I enjoyed most of the stories, but over half the book is short stories that were already published in Weber's books that are on webscription.net. The reprinted stories are "Ms. Midshipman Harrington", "A Beautiful Friendship", and "Swordbrother". There are no new stories from the honorverse or Bahzell universe.

I can't figure out why "Ms. Midshipman Harrington" and "A Beautiful Friendship" were squashed into one chapter. That's one chapter total, not one chapter each.

Also, why was Sharna renamed to Sharn?

Some wordcounts for anyone who want's them:

    Whole book: 258194 words
    Swordbrother: 48883 words
A Beautiful Friendship and Ms. Midshipman Harrington: 81209 words

Amount of the book that's new including the copyright page by wordcount: 49.6%

Just to be clear, I did like all the reprints, but this book felt like a dirty trick to sell them twice. My rating would have been four stars if it had a warning like the omnibuses have.

All great stores but I was disappointed that I had read all of them and there was nothing new. These stories are all parts of other David Weber books/short stories. Great book for a newbie though.
