Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death
In the end, the only political systems that seem to work are those based on freedom. The Inner World leaders of the Terran Federation seem to have forgotten this simple truth. After fighting the Khanate—with the Fringe Worlds to supply the raw material and the fighting men—the Inner Worlds found it hard to give up the powers they had seized during the war. So they decided not to—rather than allow the rapidly expanding Fringe Worlds representation in the Federation, they are inviting the Khanate in, to keep the colonial upstarts in their place. The Fringers have only one answer to that:
INSURRECTION

Product ReviewThis is the strongest of Steve White's books. I have never so loathed a "hero", and I've never seen a book pit two heroes against eachother with so much tension and force. I'd trade every David Weber (and ever other Steve White) book ever written to have this story become a series. If it has any flaw, it's that it SEEMS it never gets a sequel. I haven't read Exodus, but the reviews make it sound like the most important nation in this book, is simply forgotten. Sad, sad. But this particular book is wonderful. Don't bother with the prequels! Just read it!

Product ReviewThis is not so much an SF title as it is a political drama. Weber's convoluted story line left me unimpressed. Changing the roles of protagonists and heroes mid-stream does bad things for immersion in the story. As political drama, the novel rates higher. Unfortunately, I'm an old-school SF fan. I'll leave political drama to Woodward and Bernstein.

Product ReviewCrusade, In Death Ground and The Shiva Option all occur prior to this. Exodus is post this story.
This and the above are all set in teh 'Starfire' Universe. A board game that saw life as a pamphlet and paper counters in a zip lock plastic bag. Weber was given game designers credits in the Startfire followups and his work in writing the games 'historical notes' is obvious.
Roll on a decade or two and we have this. Where the game universe is fully fleshed out and the books reside as thier own snapshots in time. Well written and giving you a better understanding oddly enough, of how his 'Honorverse' came to be created in the first place.Posted on
