Book 3 in the Black Tide Riding Series. Sequel to To Sail a Darkling Sea and Under a Graveyard Sky.

With the world consumed by a devastating plague that drives humans violently insane, what was once a band of desperate survivors bobbing on a dark Atlantic ocean has now become Wolf Squadron, the only hope for the salvation of the human race. Banding together with what remains of the U.S. Navy, Wolf Squadron, and its leader Steve Smith, not only plans to survive—he plans to retake the mainland from the infected, starting with North America.

The next step: produce a vaccine. But for do that, Wolf Squadron forces led by Smith’s terrifyingly precocious daughters Sophia and Faith must venture into a sea of the infected to obtain and secure the needed materials. And if some of the rescued survivors turn out to be more than they seem, Smith just might be able to pull off his plan.

Once more, exhausted and redlining Wolf Squadron forces must throw themselves into battle, scouring the islands of the Atlantic for civilization's last hope.

An outstanding book in an outstanding series . One that you not only cannot put down but want to read over and over as well as have you waiting on the next book.

    The Walker reveal was outstanding.

The only problem is that it takes a day to read a book that takes months to become available. Waiting for the final volume will be unpleasant. I hope it will be much longer.

Excellent read. The ending's a bit abrupt, but at least it's a Ringo series that actually HAS an ending.

Minor quibble: I can't find a source that lists 6 verses for the Star Spangled Banner. The original poem only had 4. And I've usually heard that it was the "Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution." verse that gets skipped when more than one is sung.

Kudos, though, for bringing in the sixth verse of Battle Hymn ("I have read the firey Gospel....") that is never sung in church.

First off, like the other books, the story hangs together well - not a minor consideration. The character overload I complained about in the other books has tapered off; there are new characters, but the story's perspective doesn't bounce around like mad and the characters aren't dropped from the story. There was one point where Faith claimed an impossible number of combat hours, but based on later chapters I think that might have been a typo.
The only part I didn't really like was the ending, but not because it wasn't a good ending for the book. It felt like JR was tying things up, saying 'I'm done.' I hope that's not the case, that there's at least one more book.
