From the author of the New York Times bestselling Monster Hunter series and an Air Force weapons expert, an edge-of-your-seat military-political thriller. A master thief and a hardhitting mercenary team up to defeat a Central Asian warlord with world-wide destruction on his mind.

On the far side of the world, deep in former Soviet Central Asia, lies a stronghold called the Crossroads. It is run with an iron fist by a brutal warlord calling himself Sala Jihan. He is far more than a petty dictator, for Jihan holds the fate of nations in his grasp. To save a world slipping into chaos, Jihan must either fall or be controlled.

One secret military organization called Exodus plans to see that this happens. For this mission, they need the best of the best. Unfortunately the man they need is rotting in an almost unassailable foreign prison.

Enter Lorenzo, thief extraordinaire. Lorenzo is now retired, happily married and living in paradise. His Achilles heel: an FBI-agent brother who has gone missing—disappeared into the stronghold of warlord Jihan. Exodus promises to give Lorenzo his chance to rescue his brother if and only if Lorenzo will perform one service for them: break Michael Valentine out of a captivity from which no one has ever emerged alive.

And if Lorenzo can accomplish that—well then, the Crossroads awaits the sword of Exodus.

A military thriller written by two guys who know what they're talking about? Sign me up. This party started with Dead Six, which, as has been said by previous reviewers, should be read first if the reader would like to have much of a clue what's going on here. Swords of Exodus can stand on its own in terms of story but there is a great deal of backstory and character development in Dead Six that makes the experience richer. Larry Correia and Mike Kupari succeed in blending and balancing elements that all sound good on paper but so often fail in reality. We have two central characters, each with a unique perspective, background, and take on the events of the story. It can be a bit jarring to swap eyes and minds with the turn of a page, but I personally found that it helped reinforce the idea that the story was being told with a different voice. We have two technically knowledgeable and experienced writers- guys who are actually qualified to write about this stuff- who are also excellent storytellers. They get the details right and describe action (particularly combat shooting) extremely well without bogging things down with excessive and unnecessary information overload.
My only significant complaint? I couldn't put it down, read it in two evenings, and now I have to wait for the third installment of this story. Thankfully Mr. Correia is a writing machine and I won't have to wonder what happens next for too long.

I am not as big a fan of Valentine and Lorenzo as I am of Larry Correia's other stuff, but this is still a good solid book and an enjoyable sequel to "Dead Six". I would strongly advise reading

Great book but I would recommend that anyone new to the series read Dead Six first! This book is a bit darker than the first one and ends on a bit of cliffhanger so I hope the authors get cracking on the next book.
