The Weltall File by David Weber and Jacob Holo COME FOR THE GAMES.
STAY FOR THE MURDER!

The Weltall Tournament’s professional VR games were supposed to be a symbol of cooperation between SysGov and its militaristic neighbor, the Admin. But that was before star Admin player Elly Sako received a death threat, written in blood next to a copy of her own severed head. SysPol Detective Isaac Cho and DTI Special Agent Susan Cantrell are sent in to take charge of the investigation. But the pair struggles to determine who is telling the truth. A jilted relationship between players soon explodes into signs of a far-reaching conspiracy, and the two detectives find themselves racing against time before the tournament ends.

Because the killer will be the only one who wins, should they fail.

A HERO OF LEGEND FIGHTS
THE FORCES OF DARKNESS

He is known by many names over time: Tam Lin, Robin Hood, and numerous other incarnations reaching into the present—but at his heart he is still True Thomas, one man doing all he can to save us all from a powerful foe.

When his brother is snatched right before his eyes, Thomas hunts for justice and discovers that not only do these “elves” steal people, but they also are skinwalkers who occupy humans in positions of power. Their goal: to obliterate humanity and take over our world. When Thomas is dragged into their alien realm, he’s imprisoned and barely escapes alive, but in the process he gains near-immortality and the ability to transform himself. Will it be enough to protect his loved ones and defeat the enemies of humankind?

Onboard the spacecraft Magellan, Daisy—an AI tasked with commanding the ship—encounters an unexpected problem. The sole human aboard, Jack Templeton, is not in complete cryostasis. Advice from Earth is almost thirteen hours away. With incomplete information, an unknowable outcome, and the clock ticking down, Daisy had her first experience in making a snap decision.

Read “Awakenings,” by Patrick Chiles.

We Can Rebuild Him

When Martin Caidin’s Cyborg hit bookstore shelves in 1972, it sparked an interest in the field of biomechanics engineering. Soon the hit television show The Six Million Dollar Man followed. For certain readers and viewers, the idea of melding humans with machines was too exciting to leave to fiction. People like Dr. Robert E. Hampson, inspired by the novel and series, dedicated their lives to the field—indeed, they created it! With the release of his novel The Moon and the Desert, Hampson has tackled the question: What would it really take to make the Six Million Dollar Man? Now, in an exclusive essay, he delves into the science behind the novel.

Read “Whatever Happened to the Bionic Man?,” by Robert E. Hampson.
