Schools should teach 1632 by Eric Flint. Published in 2000, 1632 began an ongoing alternate history series exploring the impact of introducing 20th century Americans to 17th century Europe. The Ring of Fire series offers students opportunities to investigate history, the impact of technology on civilization, and the differences between modern civilization and earlier times. The collaborative writing program that Eric Flint brought to the series would allow students to write about their own ideas of how the series should develop. Perhaps Mr. Flint would even consider publishing the best student works in a special issue of Grantville Gazette.
