This book is a work of fiction. Despite any occasional coincidence of names, introduced purely for the sake of verisimilitude, all of the characters in it bear no resemblance whatsoever to any real human being, either living or dead. None of the situations described in these pages has occurred – YET. In fact, it may be that the original 1987 publication of Earthdoom! has wrenched our Universe into a new timeline, one in which this book's terrifyingly accurate predictions of things to come in 1989 and 1990 gave warning to the world and thus paradoxically prevented their own fulfilment!
The quotes at the head of each chapter are, however, genuine.
Small portions of this book have appeared in substantially different form in Andromeda 3 (edited by Peter Weston), Ad Astra, Aries 1 (edited by John Grant) and Knave.
While the various scientific concepts described within Earthdoom are of course authentic, readers are advised not to try to build any of the matter transmitters.
