Jules Verne was one of the many classic writers who influenced me when I was young, eager, and dedicated to becoming a writer. Even at only eight or nine years old I would curl up in a chair and struggle through big, leather-bound volumes of A Journey to the Centre of the Earth, The Mysterious Island, and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. This fascination is reflected not only in several of my short stories, but in my novel Captain Nemo, an exploration of the lives of Jules Verne and his character Nemo.
When I was asked to write a story based on H.P. Lovecraft’s chilling Cthulhu Mythos, I simply couldn’t resist folding Captain Nemo into the story. What if the Nautilus encountered some ancient, cursed ruins, deep under the sea?
