The seminal reason I wanted to become a science fiction writer is H.G. Wells’s The War of the Worlds. When I was only five or six years old, my parents let me watch the classic film of The War of the Worlds and it changed my life. That was what I wanted to write. I was so moved and inspired and fascinated by the story that I couldn’t get it out of my head.

And I’ve used that inspiration in much of my writing. This story is one of the most obvious, featuring a young H.G. Wells and his own (fictional) inspiration for the horrific Martian invasion.
