Acknowledgments

Once again, my book is encased in a world-class cover and, once again, it was crafted by Natasha Brown of Littleton, Colorado.

Feminist artist, graphic novelist, cartoonist, and California Berkeley-ite, Maureen Burdock, created the map.

Santa Fe, New Mexico’s culture photographer, Jennifer Esperanza, shot the portrait you will find at the back of the book.

Every writer needs an extra set of eyes … actually, many extra sets. If you enjoy the story’s flow and the way the characters develop, it is due in part to my team of beta readers. If you’re unfamiliar with the term, beta readers take a look at the manuscript while it is still in development, replete with all its warts and blemishes. It is their task to suggest how these imperfections can be eliminated or changed for the better. I’ve had the benefit of having three published fantasy writers handle the task and am eternally grateful to Louise White of Ayrshire, Scotland, Lynette White of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Bryan Rainey of Houston, Texas, without whose effort this might have been a lesser book.

Finally, I cannot leave this page without thanking my wife, Toni Bolton, who is also my first and last set of eyes, acting as both my line editor and critic. Without her unflagging support, I would be relegated to working only my day job.
