Convention Survival List
Okay, pack your bags, you’re setting out for a long weekend of fun, frivolity, shopping, and networking. Here are a few things that you might want to bring, just in case. We will assume (dangerous, I know) that you will pack the things you know you need … like clothing and prescription medications. Here are a few things that you might not think about immediately. (Note: Always check with your physician or pharmacist before taking over-the-counter medications.)
- Digestive soothers and antacids like bismuth subsalicylate (the pink stuff) and calcium carbonate: chewable tablets travel best, or bring their equivalent in liquid form. (Healing Potion +1, stomach ailments)
- Pain relievers like ibuprofen or acetaminophen (General Healing +1)
- Cold medication (Healing Potion +1, Con-crud)
- Antihistamine such as diphenhydramine HCl (+1 to sleep and allergy reduction)
- Adhesive bandages (+1 to Heal checks)
- Hand sanitizer (+1 to health based Constitution rolls)
- Actual cold hard cash—small bills please; the vendors will thank you and you’re covered if the ATMs run out of cash by Saturday night! Also, in some areas the Wi-Fi network is weak or nonexistent, so credit card processing is out of the question, but cash always works. (+1 negotiation skills)
- Small sewing kit (+1 skill check for Sewing/ Costuming)
- Power bars or other high energy, non-perishable, portable snacks (Standard Adventurer Kit)
- Refillable water bottle (Standard Adventurer Kit)
- Street clothes—for those times you have to walk through an airport/subway station/gas station and don’t want to be stared at. (+1 Disguise)
- Comfortable shoes—Dragon Con involves lots of walking and standing (+1 Constitution)
- Self-adhesive moleskin pads—if you didn’t take the advice on comfortable shoes (+1 Heal checks)
- Fuzzy slippers—for when you finally collapse in your hotel room and think your feet are actually trying to kill you (+1 Heal checks)
- Nail clippers (+1 Hygiene)
- Extra chargers for your electronics (+1 Street Smarts)
- A lanyard for your badge. Or purchase a collectible lanyard in one of the many Dragon Con stores throughout the Convention. (Standard Adventurer Kit)
- A copy of this book (+1 Social Knowledge checks)
