Murdoc Jern's father, an interstellar gem trader, was murdered by outlaw competitors and left behind an odd ring, large enough to fit over the finger of a space suit. With his companion Eet, a strange feline mutant with phenomenal mental powers, he soon discovered that the stone in the ring was actually a Zero Stone—an alien device left behind by an ancient vanished race—and it was the key to powers beyond human imagination.

Murdoc and Eet had to solve the secret of the Zero Stone, and very quickly, because very greedy and dangerous people wanted that ring, and wouldn't hesitate at a second murder to obtain it.

Publisher's Note: Search for the Star Stones was originally published in parts as The Zero Stone and its sequel Uncharted Stars. This is the first time both novels have appeared in one volume.

This is great old retro-sf. Starships land on their fins, and use taped coordinates. The Free Traders compete the the Combines, and, together with his mutant companion Eet, Murdoc Jern hunts for the source of the Zero Stone.

This is the sort of SF that, in my youth, I spent many happy hours with that I should have been outside. Still I love this stuff and it seems to be missing in the SF of these days.

I remember checking out this book by Andre Norton from the public library, not once, but several times when it was first released in 1968! I can highly recommend this book. I'm planning on reading it several more times in my life now that I have it in my own library.

What can one say about an author like this? She is and was one of the major lights of science fiction. Any of her books are worth reading. She actually lived near me, prior to her passing. Her legacy lives on though. Incredible and brilliant ever story is a jem.
