In the dark days after the events in the book Gust Front, but before the primary invasion, the Chancellor of Germany faces a critical decision. Over the years, with military cutbacks, the store of experienced military personnel had simply dwindled. After the destruction of Northern Virginia, he realized that it was necessary to tap the one group he had sworn never, ever, to recall: the few remaining survivors of the Waffen SS. Watch On the Rhine is perhaps the most unbiased, and brutal, look at the inner workings of the Waffen SS in history. Meticulously researched, it explores all that was good, and evil, about the most infamous military force in history using the backdrop of the Posleen invasion as a canvas.

About the Author

John Ringo is the author of the New York Times best-selling Posleen War series, so far comprising A Hymn Before Battle, Gust Front, When the Devil Dances, and Hell's Faire. He is also co-author with David Weber of the Prince Roger series, so far consisting of March Upcountry, March to the Sea, and March to the Stars. He has appeared on Fox News as a guest commentator and has written an op-ed column for the New York Post. A veteran of the 82nd Airborne, he brings first-hand knowledge of battle and the military life to his SF.

Tom Kratman is author of A State of Disobedience (Baen). In 1974, at age seventeen, he became a political refugee and defector from the PRM (People's Republic of Massachusetts) by virtue of joining the Regular Army. He attended Boston College after his first hitch, then rejoined the Army until after the Gulf War, when he decided to become a lawyer. Every now and again, when the frustrations of legal life and having to deal with other lawyers got to be too much, Tom would rejoin the Army (or a somewhat similar group, say) for fun and frolic in other climes. His family, muttering darkly, still puts up with this. Tom is currently an attorney practicing in southwest Virginia.

  1. Clean Wehrmacht Garbage

I don't know what I expected from the ridiculous and gaudy cover design, but the book certainly doesn't disappoint if you're looking for revisionist history nonsense. It's full of incredibly weak clean wehrmacht garbage like equating the bombing of Dresden to the Nazi war crimes, the SS had other nationalities of soldiers so there's no way they were racist, and a mistake-ridden recollection of the battle of Villers Bocage. The book actually has a poem at the beginning where only the beginning and end of the poem are included, leaving out all the parts bemoaning Germany's new fascist government. I think the author also wasn't aware that the writer of the poem fled Germany after Hitler came to power. Pretty hilarious that the author misunderstood what the poem was actually saying.

Anyways, want clean wehrmacht revisionist history drivel? You've found the right book.

Good read, plenty of action. Has a proper ending rather than a cliffhanger. I have to wonder if those charging "neo-nazi drivel" actually read the book. There is exactly one unrepentant "Nazi" in the book and he is portrayed as a disgusting freak who ultimately comes to a very bad end.

I read all about the negative comments about the book and some people even critic the authors and Been and I can't help but laugh. People, this is exactly what the book about, whether or not it's worth it to recall the most evil arm force in the world to save it. The book do not focus on the Nazi believe but focus on the pride of being soldiers. Beside the author did not complete surgarcoat the SS, some of the character are decribed as truly bad while some express their remorse and wish to redempt for their action. After everyone deserve a second chance even the devil.

Being a true warrior is also about the way you apply your strength and the way you apply your convictions. Otherwise you are just a rabid animal that has to be put down as expediently as possible. The SS were rotten Nazi true believers - read up on their history and realise that only true Germans of pure proven ancestry and Nazi ideological belief were chosen fdr membership. They should all have been executed after the war. The whole premise of the novel is rubbish. The SS were best at rounding up and executing civilians not at fighting real soldiers. Why not rejuvenate old Wermaht soldeirs instead who at least occasionally had shown some real humanity? This whole idea is simply stupid or an attempt to whitwash a part of Nazi evil and present it perhaps as "it was all Hitler's fault" (not it was not all his fault - there were many others). On account of this steaming pile of refuse I will not read anything more by either of the authors... and after I stop gagging I will consider whether I should still support Baen over their extremely bad editorial choice of a topic matter. In closing: Lest We Forget and Semper Fi.
