On the planet Hafardine, civilization must rediscover progress or collapse. Adrian, guided by disembodied electronic mentors from space, has brought gunpowder and steam power to the Kingdom of the Isles to break the stranglehold of the Empire. But he will have to avoid being killed by the suspicious King he serves, by the barbarians he must recruit, and even by his insanely vengeful brother.

Product ReviewA very weak bit of work by Eric Flint, a writer I normally buy and devour without question as soon as his latest book comes out - and the weakest entry in The Raj Whitehall series to date, which I also normally buy and devour without question as soon as the latest book comes out. But this ending to the Raj&Center two-parter begun with THE REFORMER by David Drake & SM Stirling drops as many potentially-interesting threads as it picks up, significantly rewrites major characters from THE REFORMER, and ends not with a bang or even a whimper, but with a bored thud.
It reminds me of nothing so much as what happened to cartoon icons Tom & Jerry when Chuck Jones took over from Hanna-Barbara - the magic just isn't there.Posted on
