WARRIORS AND SOLDIERS TIED TOGETHER THROUGHOUT TIME AND SPACE.

From the distant past to the far future, those who carry the sword rack up commendations for bravery. They are men and women who, like the swords they carry, have been forged in blood. These are their stories.

In medieval Japan, a surly ronin is called upon to defend a village against a thieving tax collector who soon finds out it's not wise to anger an old, tired man. In the ugliest fighting in the Pacific Theater, an American sergeant and a Japanese lieutenant must face each other, and themselves. A former US Marine chooses sides with outnumbered Indonesian refugees against an invading army from Java. When her lover is stolen by death, a sergeant fighting on a far-flung world vows vengeance that will become legendary. And, when a planet fragments in violent chaos, seven Freeholders volunteer to help protect another nation's embassy against a horde.

Featuring all-new stories by Michael Z. Williamson, Larry Correia, Tom Kratman, Tony Daniel, Micahel Massa, Peter Grant, John F. Holmes, and many more.

The best anthology I have ever read. It quite literally brought me to tears once or twice.

  2. Oh my! All I can say is "buy this!"

I have a katana that was bought from a very old man near Bagio, Luzon. He showed me photos of "him" as a child waving it as his friends played kickball with a Japanese head.

He had cleaned the blade with Sandpaper but it's beauty still showed through.

I eventually gave her to the 21 year old son of my late best friend. He showed great promise in kung fu and Kendo. Not a day goes by that I don't miss her.

This book brings back every wild dream and nightmare I had while she was mine.

  4. A story of the blade

I look at my accumulation of firearms from time to time, and wonder what stories they could tell (particularly my 1934 Tula Hex, matching s/n). Here are the stories told by a blade, from first forging to a latest assault on the enemy. The authors are those with an understanding of the value of cold steel; they also have an appreciation for the weaker flesh and blood part of the weapons system. Many of the top names in mil sci-fi are represented here, and the quality of the stories is superb. Who will nominate it for Dragon first, I wonder?

A fascinating read, with a wide variety of characters, some of which were only mentioned in passing in 'Freehold' and 'The Weapon' coming forth on the pages to the reader for the first time. Well worth the investment if you cannot wait for the hard copy to be released.

Great read, first 1/2 is independent of the Freehold Series, the last 4/5th's is tuned into the series and the last few promise more Freehold stories to come.
    I Liked it.
