  • A hostage uses the Princess Cecile to regain his freedom-and his throne!

  • An ally intrigues with enemies of Cinnabar-knowing the plot can only be safeguarded by destroying the Princess Cecile!

Apparently some people think a British style society can't exist in the future, or that you can't have uneducated spacers, or that simplistic weapons systems in space are unrealistic (to date, the only type that actually work in space by the way), or other references to characterizations which are similar to people I meet every day. However, for excellent entertainment that makes you want to read the series over and over again, this does hit the spot. You only have to realize that humans and human societies behavior will always be based on the lowest common denominator with a few predators at the top to see that this is actually a fairly good reflection of our own society today, barring the various portions more similar to British society. Heck, if you even bother to read the author's notes you might understand things without others having to say something. The explanations are great and they give you something of a lesson regarding our own world history!

Meh. An average space opera based on very badly thought out technology, society, or science. The ships and combat are based on 18th century naval warfare instead of realities and distances of space. The weapons systems are simplistic and don't follow through to the entirely obvious conclusions. The people on the space ships are badly educated and simplistic - some are even illiterate.

Couple that with rather strange jingoistic tendencies of the characters, and the result is decidedly strange and sub-par. Especially when compared to some other works by other authors that think carefully about implications of science, social structures, and characters.

Waiting with bated breath for the continuation, also, Starliner needs a companion novel, the characters are too real to let them end with more stories untold.(Please?)
