Book 3 in the Black Tide Riding Series. Sequel to To Sail a Darkling Sea and Under a Graveyard Sky.

With the world consumed by a devastating plague that drives humans violently insane, what was once a band of desperate survivors bobbing on a dark Atlantic ocean has now become Wolf Squadron, the only hope for the salvation of the human race. Banding together with what remains of the U.S. Navy, Wolf Squadron, and its leader Steve Smith, not only plans to survive—he plans to retake the mainland from the infected, starting with North America.

The next step: produce a vaccine. But for do that, Wolf Squadron forces led by Smith’s terrifyingly precocious daughters Sophia and Faith must venture into a sea of the infected to obtain and secure the needed materials. And if some of the rescued survivors turn out to be more than they seem, Smith just might be able to pull off his plan.

Once more, exhausted and redlining Wolf Squadron forces must throw themselves into battle, scouring the islands of the Atlantic for civilization's last hope.

I hate to be a lone voice in the wilderness amidst the untrammeled praise this book and this series seems to have garnered, but I thought it was little more than something to pass the time. Don't mistake me, I buy and read John Ringo as each new book comes out, but I've begun to get tired of the sameness of the main characters; the junior-grade Valkeries we've seen before (Callie O'Niell is just one example). JR also has a bit of a tendency to preachiness, that I find just irritating and self-indulgent, although admittedly this was much less evident than in the Last Centurion. I did like some of the humour; the Jeremy Clarkson character failing to survive the zombie apocalypse provided a bit of a giggle.

I love this book. Hell, I love this entire series.

A quick question for the author. Did you sell the rights to make a T.V. show out of this? If not, 'The Last Ship' would seem to be an example of the saying, "Imitation is the sincerest form of copyright infringement."

Go John, Go! Great read, lots of fun, looking forward to more! Only one delta - need to do the math on LT's probable combat hours over six and nine months.

One issue to consider: nuclear power plants will need support ASAP, or there may be major radiation problems if surviving staff can't maintain auxiliary cooling systems.

A very solid addition to the series, and the funniest - if a Zombie Apocalypse that kills 99.99% of the human race can be considered funny, but "Zombies don't duck" is one of the best explanations for low ammo use I've ever heard. Faith's dressing down and lecture on "How to be an officer" was hilarious! And her practice runs for jumping out of a helicopter on a rope - every bit as fun as whenever she's at the bottom of a scrum and running out of weapons while carrying on a constant tirade of - well you can't call it profanity because it mostly isn't, but it's awfully good for morale. Yeah, I saw the 7000 hours of combat time, realized that working 8 hours per day is about 2000 hours per year, and said to myself "There's a math problem here."
I give it 4 stars because I reserve 5 stars for truly great books, like the Troy Rising series. Can we get some closure on that?
