Alex Rose was a miner on Jupiter's sulfur moon Io. But it wasn't the job that attracted him, nor the money. The Great Red Spot on the giant planet had been calling to Alex all his life, and he knew in his heart that something beneath its swirling clouds was alive and waiting to be discovered. Even if it cost Alex everything, he was determined to find it. So begins the first chapter of the fantastic travels of Alex, his unique and beautiful companion Mary Seventeen, and his crew, aboard a shuttle called Diver.

This action-filled TRILOGY is the first science fiction series by artist Karl Kofoed, who is best known for his lavishly illustrated documentary-styled Galactic Geographic series which appeared in Heavy Metal magazine. Like his illustrated work, Jupiter's Reef presents the reader with a palpable sense of a world that is as alien to humans as it is full of wonder and surprises. It is sure to be enjoyed by readers both young and old who enjoy stories of exploration, romance, danger and intrigue.

Being an avid science fiction reader I found Jupiter's Reef a breath of fresh air in the science fiction world. I was greatly entertained by the book. It had all the elements of a great book. Mr. Koefed has spun a yarn so well, it made it hard to stop reading it. I will definitely be reading the others in the trilogy. Thank you Mr. Koefed for a truly entertaining book.

I would not call it action filled at all. for the most part it reads with the pace and grammar of a young adult novel, punctuated with the f word and sex scenes. boring sex scenes.
I don't think I'll read the second book as it sounds to much like the first. the only reason this book is getting any stars is the way it made you think there had been a previous volume to the series by using flash back references, but even those seemed to be disjointed by suddenly adding new characters only mentioned via flash back that completely rewrites the flash backs that begin the story.
oddly enough I probably would of enjoyed more the flash back story than this thing.
if you want action try the maximus black files by Paul Collins.
