The intro to the free library concept, it proved its point.
A over a decade later, Baen would be forced by the changing market to have to ally with Amazon for ebook distribution to devices (since so many of the self-proclaimed "tech-savvy" were unable to understand the concept of not going through the kindle store, and assumed that the store was the ONLY place to buy ebooks).

The greedy buggers at Amazon forced into the agreement the gutting the free library (which was close to 150-200 books at the time) and raising the price point of Baen's ebooks by 33%. So, don't blame Eric or Toni - blame Amazon.

    From Prime Palaver #1:
"Free libraries, electronic no less than paper ones, have always been the sanctuary for society's marginalized people. For most of us, the marginalization was a temporary economic phenomenon which we outgrew as our income reached normal adult levels."

I started reading the free books here and I got hooked on many of the authors here that way. Now I buy many books here.
Sadly, I am seeing this site lose the above perspective and has turned most of the books that used to be free into paid books thus limiting future customers from getting hooked.
