On the colony world of Gan, Trae is raised in secret by a religious sect hiding from a crazed emperor. Product ReviewI actually liked some of the tech, and while I don't agree with other reviewers that the writing was horrible, I do feel it was somewhat lacking in feeling. It was hard to connect with most of the characters. The thing that really killed it for me, however, was the actual storyline. Here they have this mind-blowing branegate technology and the book devolves into a silly religious war and the amazing tech is really just a Deus Ex Machina. What makes me sad is this book really did have some potential if it had just gone in a different direction - exploration missions, more related scientific breakthroughs or ways to use the technology. Having the ability to travel to different universes and concentrating on the political intrigues of a few planets is just ... a strange mixture.

Product ReviewWooden is too high praise for the writing. There may be a story in here somewhere but I couldn't keep reading long enough to find out.
