Soccer mom and demon fighter Barbara Everette is back in an intricately interwoven monster noir thriller, the sequel to bestselling Princess of Wands.
Barbara Everette has a problem. It seems Janea, Barbara’s assistant and the Foundation for Love and Universal Faith’s best operative, has been thrown into a coma by some very nasty magic she’s stirred up. Barbara must track down the perpetrators and break the spell or Janea’s soul will be forever lost on the astral plane. Oh, and if she can’t break the spell, zombies will destroy all mankind.
Meanwhile, Janea, a high-dollar call girl, stripper and High Priestess of Freya when she isn’t fighting demons, must contend with a spiritual journey of her own. Where to locate one’s true inner essence? At a science fiction convention, of course. But when rescuers pursue Janea into her vision of a geeky alternate reality, we find this is one science fiction convention where the Guest of Honor could turn out to be Death Himself.

Product ReviewI am usually a big fan of Ringo's work, but this one leaves me cold. The middle third of the book is essentially an "in joke" and really is a separate story in itself. And not one that I enjoyed.
Also found is a FIVE page description of a sparring match in a dojo. Boring. Very boring. (And I'm a black belt!)
I won't "spoil" the ending, but it is reminiscent of the audience of Peter Pan hoping that Tinkerbell gets better.Posted on

Product ReviewThis book is a two parter, and very much of a split decision.
The first part isn't quite Ringo at his best, but that's still better than most.
4 stars
The last half of the second part is Ringo at his worst. He stars well, but he gives into a tendency to let the message get in the way of the story. About 2/3 of the way through I started reading a line every 3rd or 4th page until I got to the end.
1 star only because the beginning keeps me from giving it 0.
Overall 2 1/2 starsPosted on

Product ReviewIt is unsettling to read this story. It is a very good story. I think what is unsettling is it is so close to home. Mr. Ringo has taken an interesting turn and I would advise anyone who reads this set of books to be aware there might be quite a bit of self examination induced by the stories. Mr. Ringo is very brave to go where he has gone. Thank you for the stories and the soul searching they have caused, Mr. Ringo.

Product ReviewI find that I am enjoying it more the second time through. I was kind of negative after the first reading...didn't like the way Barb had turned into more of an operator and less of a soccer mom with an attitude. Anyway, better the second time around....still hate the way it ends though...that is just plain wrong!
