Jake Sullivan is a war hero, a private eye-and an ex-con. He's free because he has a magical talent, being able to alter the force of gravity in himself and objects in his vicinity, and the Bureau of Investigation calls on him when they need his help in apprehending criminals with their own magical talents. But the last operation he was sent along to help with went completely wrong, and Delilah Jones, the woman the G-men were after, who just happened to be an old friend of Jake's in happier times, had a lot of magical muscle with her, too much muscle for the cops to handle, even with Jake's help.
It got worse. Jake found out that the Feds had lied to him about Delilah being a murderer as well as a bank robber, and they had lied about this being his last job for them-he was too valuable for them to let him go. And things were even worse than Jake imagined. There was a secret war being waged by opposing forces of magic-users, and Jake had no idea that he had just attracted the attention of one side, whose ruthless leaders were of the opinion that Jake was far too dangerous to be permitted to live...
About the Author
Larry Correia is hopelessly addicted to two things: guns and B-horror movies. He has been a gun dealer, firearms instructor, accountant, and is now a very successful writer. Product ReviewOn the one hand, this book has an interesting premise, solid writing, good characters, and some fun historical references (though it is quite clearly fantasy, not alternate history).
On the other... what is it about airships? Commercial airships under the conditions of the book make sense, but warships? Not even under the carefully tailored rules of this world do they make sense.
If you can live with the airships (I could) this is a fun read, a summer action movie in text form. Enjoy the film noir feel and the Tesla super weapon!Posted on

Product ReviewThere are a whole bunch of things that are great about this book, but it all comes down to the characters. Plenty of action doesn't hurt either :)
Top notch; "Do the ends justify the means?"Posted on

Product ReviewAnother awesome book by Larry Correia. I'm not sure what I like better now, Monster Hunter or this series. Luckily he is writing in both :-). A great read for fans of Correia and fantasy fans in general.

Product ReviewI liked the Monster Hunter books but this one is far better. The world is rich and detailed, the story intriguing and dramatic, and not burdened with Ringo-esque political sniping that is all a bit opaque to non-American readers. This is a great book and I look forward to seeing more like it from Mr Correia.

Product ReviewI picked this one up because I have really enjoyed the Monster Hunter International series. This is obviously a very different book, and it (presumably) draws on a very different corner of Correia's imagination. The setting is what makes this book.
The novel rewrites some events, changes technological progression, and includes historical figures (often with new abilities). The magic element is significant to the plot, and it is very well developed throughout the story. If you like Larry's other books, this one is definitely worth a shot.Posted on

Product Review3 published books and 3 more on the way in 2011... Larry Correia has a gift for telling stories and a style that I (and many others based upon his sales figures) find fun to read. Fun to read... I simply have no higher praise.

Product ReviewExcellent Read. This authors other works (e.g. the Monster Hunter books) are good reads, but this takes the craft of writing to a different level. Truly an original concept and well written. Great story, good character development, internally consistent -- the whole nine. Simply stated -- this book should be read.

Product ReviewExcellent read. Finished it in 1 day. Do you want to read it? If anything of these words grab your attention, it's definately for you. Profane talking squirrel? Dozens of types of weaponry? The ability to use magic to toss around cars?
Yeah, then you'll love it.
