The Star Kingdom of Manticore and the Republic of Haven have been enemies for Honor Harrington's entire life, and she has paid a price for the victories she's achieved in that conflict. And now the unstoppable juggernaut of the mighty Solarian League is on a collision course with Manticore. The millions who have already died may have been only a foretaste of the billions of casualties just over the horizon, and Honor sees it coming.

She's prepared to do anything, risk anything, to stop it, and she has a plan that may finally bring an end to the Havenite Wars and give even the Solarian League pause. But there are things not even Honor knows about. There are forces in play, hidden enemies in motion, all converging on the Star Kingdom of Manticore to crush the very life out of it, and Honor's worst nightmares fall short of the oncoming reality.

But Manticore's enemies may not have thought of everything after all. Because if everything Honor Harrington loves is going down to destruction, it won't be going alone.

This is military sci-fi at it's finest, by an author who
really knows his subject. The fact that the central character female is just the icing on the cake!!!

i have read the comments on this work and am disappointed by what seems to be a basic lack of understanding of how a series evolves we have now been given a glimpse into the motivations of all the sides to the conflict that are involved in honnorverse some persons seem to just want fast non stop action others just want Honor's view and views Hamish, the Queen the Bureaucrats the run the League and the slavers of Messa as unnecessary. They limit the character the profess to love to a one dimensional cutout that has no depth. Had the author just told us that pavel attempted to rape Honor when the were at the island together and her reaction to it then an important element would have been missin with out pavels motivations his reasons behind all what he and his family has done to honor to engender the hate that honor had for him. Also with the messa's motivations why would be the biggest question why include an entity that both the Star kingdom\Empire and the Republic of haven (in all its incarnations) have as an enemy in common if you don't show that that enemy is real ad is taking steps to defeat them. is manpower just there to be beaten up on. We must get their perspective to truly understand some of the actions they have taken. in my view to have a well rounded main character you must have well rounded supporting characters so you can understand their impacts on the protagonist. the only reason that i did not rate it a 5 is that i was wanting more

Some have noted long windedness and others have note a plethora of characters. It has all that and I'm still on the edge of my seat. I read Storm of the Shadows just before this didn't realize it was canon to the current story arc. Now I have to wait for the next book...

When the goods bit happened it was great, but as soon as the descriptions of how many missiles was controlled by x amount of bala, bla bla, I skipped a quite a few paragraphs. I skipped the boring meeting between Sollies, Mesas etc. I thinks very few readers, like me are interested to know exactly was is going on in the Mesan's, Sollies heads. I hope that DW does away with the boring meetings and in the overkill on the armament. It is enough to say the Manties hardware is better. The ending is a dog, and I can't wait for the next book.
