The winner was announced by science fiction legend Ben Bova and the award accepted by runner up Martin L. Shoemaker at the International Space Development Conference in Washington, D.C., on May 25. Grand prize winner R.P.L. Johnson, who lives in Australia, wasn’t able to come to the conference.
