Complete Liaden Universe Saga Available as Unencrypted Ebooks from Baen Books' WebscriptionsAdventure, intrigue, romance, intricately imagined heroes and heroines, complex bad guys who are still satisfyingly evil and rapacious: readers loved the Liaden UniverseŽ from the moment they jumped into that galaxy over a decade ago. Sharon Lee and Steve Miller quite simply raised the bar for full-on, audacious space opera. But don't take our word for it. Here's what another devoted reader (with a few world-building credentials of her own) has to say:
"Every now and then you come across an author, or in this case, a pair, who write exactly what you want to read, the characters and personalities that make you enjoy meeting them. I rarely rave on and on about stories, but I am devoted to Lee and Miller's Liaden novels." —Anne McCaffrey, SFWA Grand Master, winner of the Hugo and Nebula awards
So here is the saga. All of it. As in: every Liaden UniverseŽ novel ever published, collected in two e-volumes, available from Baen Books' Webscriptions (www.webscriptions.net). The first megavolume will be released February 14, the second March 15th. No need to track each and every one down on dead tree. And they will be available in the reader-friendly, unencrypted formats Webscriptions is known for. For the next three months, each of these five-book volumes for $20. You do the math. Try not to faint when you factor in the shipping costs. AFTER the three months is up, the e-volumes "dissolve" and we'll offer each individual Liaden ebook title for $5 each. (Still a great deal, of course!)
The first volume is Korval's Legacy. It includes the novels Conflict of Honors, Agent of Change, Carpe Diem, Plan B, Local Custom and an all new introduction by the authors. Volume Two, Phase Change, includes Scout's Progress, I Dare, Crystal Soldier, Crystal Dragon, Balance of Trade and a new introduction by the authors.
Anne McCaffrey is not alone in her praise of the series: "[The Liaden novels are] full of action, exotic characters, plenty of plot, and even a touch of romance. The world building is outstanding." And Publishers Weekly says: "[T]he authors' craftsmanship is top-notch, recalling the work of Elizabeth Moon and Lois McMaster Bujold, as well as. . .the military SF of writers like Robert Frezza."
Across a fallen galaxy, the Liadens have risen to take on the challenge of bringing trade and civilization to the stars and, in the process, made themselves the aristocrats of known space. The battle is on and the stakes are huge: a free civilization in the galaxy—or descent into a new Galactic Dark Age!
And we agree with Anne McCaffrey: "Start at the beginning, dear reader, and you will be rewarded with a sanctuary you can escape to, as I do when this world we're stuck with is impossible to endure."
