September 7, 2007—Wake Forest, North Carolina: Baen Books is proud to announce that it has concluded a deal to release electronic versions of select Subterranean Press titles. The titles will be available both individually and as part of a separate Subterranean Press program available at Baen's e-publishing site, www.webscriptions.com.
"Subterranean Press has been publishing topnotch fiction for more than a decade, and we're delighted to be able to give them the opportunity to reach out to a whole new market," said Toni Weisskopf, Publisher of Baen Books. "From such giants as Orson Scott Card, Peter Straub, Dan Simmons, and Robert Bloch to talented newcomers such as Joe Hill, Scott Lynch, John Scalzi, and Charles Stross, Subterranean has an impressive stable of authors."
William Schafer, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Subterranean Press, added, "I'm excited to make our books, many of them limited editions, available to a much wider audience."
Subterranean Press is widely considered to be among the finest independent publishers of science fiction, fantasy, and horror. In addition to publishing novels, short story collections and chapbooks, Subterranean also produces an online quarterly publication called Subterranean Magazine.
Baen Books has been at the forefront of the electronic book business from its earliest inception, offering a wide variety of titles in a broad array of formats, with innovative marketing programs such as eARCs, backlist bundling and Webscriptions. And of course, Baen continues its staunch commitment to offering all its ebook titles without onerous DRM software.
"We don't treat our customers like criminals, and they don't act like them. We've found that if you treat your readers with respect, they become repeat customers, as the success of our decade-old Webscription program can attest," Weisskopf commented. Shafer concurred, saying, "This is a great way to give added life to some of our titles and introduce them to a much larger community of readers."
