Baen Books Inks Three More Key Deals for Coming Year

Acquisitions Announced from Best-sellers Flint, Lackey, and Drake

February 16, 2007 – Baen Books Publisher Toni Weisskopf has reached agreement on a major fantasy novel collaboration between two brand names of the genre: New York Times best-sellers Eric Flint and Mercedes Lackey. In addition, Baen stalwart and best-selling “Hammer’s Slammers” series author David Drake has agreed to deliver a new science fiction novel. Finally, Eric Flint and Dave Freer, whose previous collaborations have proven highly popular, will team up again to deliver a new fantasy.

These deals follow an earlier round of acquisitions from Baen cornerstone authors David Weber, John Ringo, Eric Flint (soloing), and Lois McMaster Bujold.

“It will be wonderful to continue Baen’s long term relationship with Dave Drake; I’ve been a fan of his works for a long time. And I’m very excited about the Flint and Lackey collaboration,” says Weisskopf. “These are writers of proven talent with devoted readerships and remarkable sales records. Teaming them together once again will make for a wonderful book -- and a great opportunity to expand their audiences even further. The new Heirs of Alexandria novel by long-time collaborators Flint and Freer should also be a great addition to the series. And we’ll be welcoming a new solo fantasy from Dave Freer in 2008.”

Founded by Jim Baen in 1983, and known for its story-oriented approach, Baen Books is a dominant presence in the military science fiction, fantasy, and adventure genres, with over fifty million copies in print and dozens of entries on the best-seller lists.
“It’s going to be a great year for Baen. We’ve got excellent new projects on-line,” says Weisskopf. “Our ‘tent-pole’ writers are set to deliver. We are moving forward full-sail.”
